Frequently Asked Questions about zinc air batteries

Q How long will my battery last?

A

Battery life is dependent on the type of the hearing aid as well as the hours that the aid is used. Your hearing care professional can advise the battery life depending upon many other factors.

Q What are common battery sizes?

A

Hearing aid batteries come in five sizes and choosing the right one depends on the style and size of your hearing aids. The hearing aid industry has color-and-number-coded the packaging of batteries to make buying replacements easy (choose 10-yellow, 13-orange, 312-brown, or 675-blue). The sticky tab on the back of the battery is also color-coded. Typically, smaller batteries have shorter battery life than larger ones.

Q Why is there a tab on my zinc battery?

A

Zinc air batteries come in four sizes which are 10, 13, 312 & 675. To identify the size, most manufacturers use an industry standard colour code on their zinc air tabs and packaging.

Since the batteries uses air as a source of power, the tab seals the air holes in the battery and ensure freshness until you are ready to use the battery. Do not use the tab if you are not ready to use the battery. Replacing the tab when the battery is not in use will not extend the battery life.
